Conservation Plan
Let’s Be Water Wise in Woodmoor
Managing our use to meet our needs Woodmoor Water and Sanitation District is committed to conserving our most precious natural resource. We know that water is scarce in the West, and we must safeguard our supply. The District is taking the necessary steps to be able to meet our community’s needs now and into the future with a sustainable water supply.
Woodmoor Water currently relies on underground reserves— Denver Basin aquifers—for most of its water. Since these aquifers cannot be expected to supply affordable water indefinitely, it is vital that the community continue to use this water wisely. The District recently adopted an in-depth, long-range conservation plan that recognizes the importance of wise water management.
Woodmoor Water’s strategic plan Conservation is a shared responsibility and a challenge that relies on everyone’s participation to be effective. The Water Conservation Plan approaches that challenge in several ways, including:
- Limiting summertime water demand during peak-use periods.
- Promoting sensible water use year-round.
- Offering financial incentives for households and businesses to be more efficient.
These initiatives will help assure Woodmoor Water customers a stable and reliable water supply.
Summer—the time to save
A key feature of the plan is summertime outdoor watering restrictions from June 1 through Sept. 30.
- Street addresses ending in odd numbers can water lawns on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
- Addresses ending in even numbers can water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
- No watering will be allowed 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or on Mondays.
- Flowers, vegetables, trees and shrubs may be hand-watered anytime. Please see the Water Conservation Plan for exceptions regarding new lawn seed and turf.
Promoting sensible use all year long
Woodmoor Water’s conservation efforts are intended to extend the life of our water resource and reduce what the District and customers pay for water. Simply put, if we use less water, the District draws less water from the aquifers. However, as the levels in the Denver Basin aquifers continue to decline, the cost of extraction will continue to rise.
To further encourage conservation, Woodmoor Water customers pay tiered rates that discourage excessive use. Customers see savings by using less and paying lower rates on a sliding scale as water use drops. The District also carefully monitors leaks to prevent water loss, and all water use in the District is metered.
Incentives for efficiency
Customers who invest in greater efficiency in their homes and businesses can get support from Woodmoor Water’s rebate programs. Rebates ranging from $10 to $100 are available for purchasing water-saving upgrades to plumbing and appliances, such as low-flow toilets, showerheads, dishwashers and clothes washers. Woodmoor Water customers already have received hundreds of rebates—conserving thousands of gallons of water a year.
